Pouring Class
This is a 3 week course. Members must be physically able to lift and move molds, climb step stools to shelve molds and tolerate standing while working with the liquid slip and molds. 
Pouring is a process requiring setting up molds, banding molds, pouring slip into the molds, pouring off the excess slip, allowing the slip to dry, then the absolute joy of opening the mold to reveal a piece of greenware. Members are taught the basics of pouring and being part of a pouring team. 

 

Yarn Class
The yarn class is a fun and relatively easy technique for even ceramic beginners. Class members learn the technique of laying different types of yarn on a piece during the application of different layers of glaze and the effect caused by pulling off the yearn and then firing the piece.

Sheers
The Mayco Foundation (FN) Sheers are a translucent fired glaze that is beautiful used on pieces with detail. This class teaches the application and use of these beautiful glazes.

Cobblestone
This class often uses a mushroom to demonstrate this technique. The instructor teaches the technique using the Mayco Cobblestone product.

Mosaic Class
Decorating ceramic pieces with ceramic tiles is not only beautiful but it is a fun and creative endeavor. In this class you least how to glue or thinset tiles on ceramic pieces. You are the artist. All class members meet with the instructor 4 weeks before the class to discuss their piece; to decide the pattern, colors, type of tile required and what part of the piece they will glaze before the class. In preparation for the class, the class member prepares their piece. The Bisque is cleaned, selected glazes are applied and the piece is fired and ready for tracing the pattern and applying the tiles. The instructor orders the tiles so everyone has the color and type of tile for the class.

 

Chain Class
This is a fun and creative class. During the application of the layers of different glaze colors a chain is laid on the piece and then pulled… producing beautiful folds and whimsical flower like structures.

Santa Plate
This is a club holiday favorite. Santa is glazed on a plate. This plate uses a variety of techniques and products and is fun for the novice and season ceramic painter.

Mother of Pearl
How to apply the beautiful opal finish on glazed pieces is taught in the class. The luster – Mother of Pearl is used along with the solvent – Essence,,,,, so it is smelly work to get to a beautiful fired product. The class emphasizes technique and also discusses the application of gold.

Translucents
Translucents are non-fire stains applied over acrylic painted bisque. The stain is applied then rubbed off to varying degrees to leave a translucent affect on the the ceramic piece. These are best used on pieces with detail as the stain accentuates the detail in the piece. Instructors will teach the techniques for using translucent stains, Generally a piece will be selected that the whole class does together.

Crackle Class
Usually the word CRACK is a nightmare for anyone in ceramics….but this class teaches the technique to have that crackling as a very lovely finish to a piece.

Dry Brush
This class is a club favorite. Dry Brushing uses acrylic paints. In preparation for the class, members select a piece (these are some of our beautiful detailed animals) from the instructor’s list, clean and fire the piece then paint it black with acrylic paint. In the class, the magic happens, the piece comes alive as the member uses the dry brush technique to finish the piece.

Hand Building
Did you know that there is LOW FIRE CLAY?! This class encourages members to be creative with rolling and cutting out shapes with clay that can be fired at 04 in our Ceramic West kilns.
